In a double ikat, both the warp and the weft are tied and dyed to the pattern before a single thread is woven. The two must then align on the loom to within a millimetre. Very few families still do this work.

The classic Patan grid of elephants, parrots and dancing figures, in vermilion and ivory.

This is the most demanding weave among Indian sarees and among the slowest — this piece represents roughly five months of work.

Tags travel with the saree. Hologram numbers are verifiable with the issuing body.
